Observing the night sky can be done with no special equipment, although a sky map can be very useful, and a good telescope or binoculars will enhance some experiences and bring some otherwise invisible objects into view. You can also use astronomy accessories to make your observing easier, and use our Satellite Tracker page powered by N2YO.com (opens in new tab) to find out when and how to see the International Space Station and other satellites. You can also capture the night sky by using any of the best cameras for astrophotography, along with a selection of the best lenses for astrophotography.

Read on to find out what's up in the night sky tonight (planets visible now, moon phases, observing highlights this month) plus other resources (skywatching terms, night sky observing tips and further reading).

The moon will reach its third quarter phase on Wednesday, March 15 at 02:08 GMT. That translates to 10:08 p.m. EDT or 7:08 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, March 14. Third quarter moons rise at about midnight in your local time zone, and then linger into the southern sky during morning daylight. At third, or last, quarter the moon is illuminated on its western side, towards the pre-dawn Sun. The week of dark, moonless evening skies that follow this phase will be ideal for observing deep sky targets in binoculars and telescopes, especially spring galaxies.

On Monday, March 20 at 5:24 p.m. EDT, 1:24 p.m. PDT, or 21:24 GMT the sun will cross the celestial equator traveling north, marking the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of northern spring. Days and nights will be of equal length on that day, and the sun will rise due east and set due west. At mid-northern latitudes on the March equinox, the amount of daylight added to each day reaches its maximum of 3 minutes.

The moon will complete the first quarter of its orbit around Earth at 02:32 GMT on Wednesday, March 29, which converts to 10:32 p.m. EST and 7:32 p.m. PST on Tuesday evening, March 28. At first quarter, the relative positions of the Earth, sun, and moon cause us to see our natural satellite half-illuminated - on its eastern side. First quarter moons always rises around noon and set around midnight, allowing them to be seen in the afternoon daytime sky, too. The evenings surrounding first quarter are the best for viewing the lunar terrain when it is dramatically lit by low-angled sunlight.

Visual Magnitude: This is the astronomer's scale for measuring the brightness of objects in the sky. The dimmest object visible in the night sky under perfectly dark conditions is about magnitude 6.5. Brighter stars are magnitude 2 or 1. The brightest objects get negative numbers. Venus can be as bright as magnitude minus 4.9. The full moon is minus 12.7 and the sun is minus 26.8.

Purify your soul from all unclean things. Completely forget something called'this world' [or 'this life']. The time for play is over and the serious timeis upon us. How much time have we wasted in our lives? Shouldn't we takeadvantage of these last hours to offer good deeds and obedience?

U.S. authorities found this letter handwritten in Arabic in the suitcase ofMohamed Atta. It includes Islamic prayers, instructions for a last night oflife, and a practical checklist of reminders for the final operation. The FBIreleased an untranslated copy of the letter; the British newspaper The Observer published thistranslation. Additional copies of this letter were found at the crash site ofUnited Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania and at a Dulles InternationalAirport parking lot in a car registered to one of the hijackers on AmericanFlight 77. Do not forget to take a bounty, even if it is a glass of water to quench yourthirst or that of your brothers, if possible. When the hour of realityapproaches, the zero hour, [unclear] and wholeheartedly welcome death for thesake of God. Always be remembering God. Either end your life while praying, seconds before the target, or make your last words: 'There is no God but God,Muhammad is His messenger'.

Planets are shown on the 16th of the month in the mid-evening sky, with symbols sized for brightness like the stars. All planets are visible to the unaided eye except Neptune. Furthermore, planets in the sky after midnight and in the twilight sky near sunset or sunrise will not appear on the sky dome maps.

Observers across England, Wales and the Netherlands saw a shooting star blazing across the sky last night as the rock travelled through Earth's atmosphere. Footage captured on dashboard cameras, video doorbells, mobile phones, and dedicated camera networks was subsequently analysed to find out more about the fireball.

To achieve the shots of the students walking down the nighttime Soho streets, the crew hid a Steadicam within a bicycle rickshaw taxi (these are common around the Soho area). The road was not closed off and the 'extras' in the shot were unaware they were in a movie.

Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, Rita Tushingham, Michael Ajao and Synnøve Karlsen rounded out the rest of the cast in June. Rigg died shortly after production ended. Wright said that he was filming with Rigg "right up until the end", and described working with her as "a beautiful experience". It is also the last film appearance of Margaret Nolan, who died in October 2020.

Filmmaker Sam Mendes first introduced Edgar Wright to screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who later co-wrote 1917 (2019) with Mendes. Wilson-Cairns told Wright in passing that she had worked as a bartender at The Toucan in Soho for five years and lived around the corner, above The Sunset Strip on Dean Street. On the night of the Brexit vote in 2016, they went on a bar crawl through the basement bars of Soho, ending up at one called Trisha's, where Wright pitched her the story of Last Night In Soho.

The first song Eloise plays when she settles into her new room is Cilla Black's "You're My World (Il mio mondo)." This choice serves two purposes - the sharp violin notes at the beginning have a stabbing sound, reminiscent of Psycho (1960), and Cilla Black's appearance at the Cafe de Paris leaves it unclear whether this was a vision of a night she really performed there, or part of a dream inspired by playing that song before Eloise went to bed.

Edgar Wright's obsession with 1960s London helped shape the themes of the film "Something that I find truly nightmarish and I guess there's an element where I'm sort of giving a sharp rebuke to myself is the danger of being overly nostalgic about previous decades. In a way, the film is about romanticizing the past and why it's wrong to do that." British films of the 1960s were also inspirations for Wright, who said: "A lot of films of that period are about the darker side of Soho or of show business. You still have to question where they're coming from, because there's a lot of them, which are more the sensationalistic ones, that take this kind of punitive approach to the female characters. There's a lot of movies where it seems that the genre is 'Girl comes to London to make it big and is roundly punished for her efforts.'"

James Bond references include the marquee ad for Thunderball (1965); the "Vesper" cocktail, from the 1953 novel "Casino Royale" which did not appear in a movie until Casino Royale (2006); casting of Margaret Nolan, who played Dink and served as model for the opening credits in Goldfinger (1964); casting of Dame Diana Rigg, who played Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969); and, lastly, the Día de los Muertos costume donned by Daniel Craig in Spectre (2015), which in turn references the Baron Samedi of Live and Let Die (1973) (a character in the Halloween party wears the said getup). Edgar Wright has frequently stated that he would love to direct a James Bond film.

It was Chung's idea to light the phone green while the rest of the room is slathered in red during the final nightmare assault. Edgar Wright complimented him on its execution, to which Chung replied "I am genius!"

In December 2017, after the press tour for Baby Driver concluded, Wright felt pressure to begin working on a sequel immediately, but decided instead to go in "a radically different direction" for his next film. He phoned Wilson-Cairns and asked if she wanted to co-write the screenplay for this film. They rented an office in Soho to work on the script, consulting a folder of research collected by Lucy Pardee, a BAFTA Award-winning casting director and researcher who had interviewed people who lived and worked in Soho in the 1960s and the present day. Wright wanted to be "true to the history of the area". Wright and Wilson-Cairns wrote the first draft of the script in six weeks, before she had to leave to begin 1917 with Mendes. Wright originally wanted the 1960s scenes to have no dialogue or only be accompanied by music, "that they should be like dreams". Wilson-Cairns suggested the character of Sandie have dialogue, saying, "We have to fall in love with Sandie. And I think it's difficult to fall in love with [her] if she doesn't say anything." Wilson-Cairns also proposed a scene where Sandie auditions at a Soho nightclub called the Rialto. As soon as she suggested it, Wright knew that Sandie should sing Petula Clark's "Downtown".

They used Ennio Morricone's music for The Bird With the Crystal Plumage (1970) as a temp score early on in the editing. They also used the "School in Flames" track from Pino Donaggio's Carrie (1976) score on-set as motivation for McKenzie during the nightmarish scene. 041b061a72
